How to use hashtags #

The first appearance was hashtag in August 2007 blog post by Stowe Boyd. Since then it has become the most widely used Twitter, who began hyperlinking all hashtags in July 2009. In 2010 we introduced Twitter "trending topics" hashtags, and is displayed on the first page shown. This made it easy to follow and who was on the Internet.

What is a hashtag?

Hashtag is defined when a word or phrase along with the call "number sign", like for example #SEO or #SocialMedia using a hashtag is a way to brand something I had written, but as a means to spread the word and share content. Through hashtags need not be friends or follow someone on Twitter, if you met something, anyone searching for the word or phrase will be able to find your post. Other social networks like Instagram and Facebook now while hashtags on Twitter originated, have followed suit with hashtags.

What about the @?

If you're already on Twitter or any social media platform you've probably also noticed "log". This is used in the same way as a number, what is the difference? When you use before the word or phrase that means it belongs to account, for example @BBC or @chanssat. Remember to verify the account as they might not always be expecting them to have the account name. Even if it appears as "chansat", is the name of the actual account @chanssat as shown below. The reason for this is that "chansat" was probably taken when this account was made, that when there is a unique name that will help you.

the tehcnical way

It's easier than you think. You'll find your hashtag button the right side of the keyboard, next to the ' Enter ' button (keyboard). Press the button and then type the word you want to hashtag, without space. If you type the phrase make sure you leave no space between each word. Let me show you an example!

Book my summer #holiday with @Expedia to #LosAngeles-can't wait for Sun, #surfing, shopping!

In this Twitter hashtag has chosen to #holiday, #LosAngeles and #surfing because I want people looking for holiday and Los Angeles with the surf the Web to find my post (Los Angeles is put together in a single word). As you've probably noticed I was "tagged" with "Expedia" because they have an account.

Why should I use it?

As a normal person the main goal with the use of hashtags is gaining followers and engage in talks, essentially the socialization. Can increase your followers and reach.

I would say the company is a vital part of Twitter marketing. It's a great way to share what, abandon performances and host contests or get the buzz going. This new way to brand and profile, and most importantly it's free.

Where can i use them?

You can now use #hashtags on social media platforms, although most people relate to Twitter. As the aforementioned Facebook recently launches hashtags, while Instagram, Google +, Tumblr is using hashtags for a period of time. So there is no excuse.

DOS and Dont'ts

There is many ways you can get the hashtaging error, but here are a few do's and Don'ts:

Get trends going. This is a great way to create a buzz and gain followers. Try to find fun and engaging hashtag that will get people talking. This is definitely one of the best ways to brand yourself and/or your company, and simple.

Don't hate. Be careful about the negative, if you come across angryor hateful you will affect people's opinion of you. Don't say things you wouldn't say in real life. Obviously feel hashtag things that you disagree with, or haters, but be prepared for different people. Also if you are responsible for a social media strategy for the company, not all words hashtag angry or rude or offensive. You will get the company into trouble.

No hashtag for each word. It will make readers go crazy, it will look like spam.
